Up on Green Bluff, just northeast of Spokane, harvest season is getting underway. Late summer brings peaches, huckleberries, and the first early apples; the orchards and farm stands fill up with families, and it becomes one of the best weekend traditions the Inland Northwest has to offer. It's also a perfect excuse to talk about eating with the seasons — something we're a little obsessed with.
Why a Green Bluff haul is good for you
Freshly picked, in-season fruit tends to be higher in flavor and nutrients than produce that's traveled across the country. Peaches bring vitamin C and fiber; apples add gut-friendly pectin; huckleberries are packed with the same antioxidant pigments that make our açaí bowls so deeply purple. Filling a bag straight from the tree is about as close to the source as food gets.
Balance the day out
A day at the Bluff often ends with cider donuts and a caramel apple — and that's part of the fun, no guilt here. The trick is balance: pair the treats with real, fiber-and-protein-forward food so your blood sugar isn't on a roller coaster all afternoon. That's where a bowl fits perfectly on the drive up or the way home.
- Before you go: a fruit-forward, easy-to-digest smoothie keeps energy steady while you're walking rows of trees.
- On the way home: a protein-topped bowl balances out the day's sweeter snacks.
What to order
To lean into the season's flavors, our Full Moon bowl (vanilla, cacao wow, granola, banana, strawberry, peanut butter, cacao nibs) brings a rich, harvest-y depth with far less sugar than a caramel apple — plus real protein from the peanut butter. For the ride up, a bright Glow Up smoothie (mango, pineapple, apple juice) is all fruit, all energy. Prefer to build your own around what's in season? The Whatever Bowl lets you stack exactly the fruit you love.
Green Bluff and a superfood bowl are the same idea from two directions: real, seasonal fruit, close to the source. Make a day of both.
Keep the season going at home
You'll inevitably come home with more peaches and apples than you can eat before they turn. Freeze the extras for smoothies, slice apples with nut butter for a snack that mirrors what we do on our PB Crunch Toast, and lean on whole fruit over anything processed while the picking's this good. Late-summer produce this fresh only lasts a few weeks.
